Nicki Minaj and Drake have a true friendship as the two rappers have shown in the past. From collabing on tracks together to having each other’s backs, the two artists showed they really have love for one another.
Although their friendship never dwindled, the two have not been seen together in a while. Until last night when Drake joined Nicki’s Instagram Live to talk about Nicki’s new music and then their friendship with one another.
Nicki re-recorded her mixtape Beam Me Up Scotty, and it became available on streaming services for the first time ever last night. The mixtape also featured a few new songs, including “Seeing Green” featuring Lil Wayne and Drake himself.
Nicki dropped her re-recorded album at midnight of May 14th. While this mixtape was a surprise in itself, Minaj had been hinting at “new music” coming out for the past 4 days on her Instagram. The star didn’t disclose it would be this project that she would be releasing, but fans were anticipating something good from Minaj; and they were ecstatic when they found out it was the Beam Me Up Scotty mixtape.
While Minaj’s Beam Me Up Scotty mixtape is from 2009, this is the first time ever it has been put out on a public streaming service. This way, making it easier for fans to listen to. Nicki has re-recorded the mixtape herself, along with adding a few new songs to it.
In honor of the mixtape being re-released, Nicki Minaj hopped on an Instagram Live for her fans. She was soon after joined on the IG Live by long time friend, Drake. The two had a nice little catch up and expressed how much they meant to one another in front of everyone watching.
It felt good seeing Drake on Nicki’s Instagram Live not only because of their relationship that fans love, but also because Drake is featured on two tracks on Nicki’s mixtape; one track being new and one track a remix of “Best I Ever Had”.
The two talked about their new song, “Seeing Green” and Drake expressed how much he wanted to get Nicki to rap on it. He said, “It didn’t feel right with you not being on it—that’s really the best way I could put it. You know I had some real heart-to-hearts with you lately just about, that it’s your world, nobody does this s–t better than you.”
Drake kept going to speak not only for himself, but for the fans. He continued “We really miss your presence and just the bars. We miss the excitement that you bring.” Nicki Minaj has been focusing on different aspects of her life, rightfully so. She and her husband just had a baby in September and she has been really focusing on her family. However, with her back in action, Drake and everyone else are here for it.
Nicki didn’t let the Instagram Live come to an end without gushing over Drake either. She shared, “On the real s–t, I love you so much, Drake… He single handedly got me out of my writer’s block, and I’m never gonna forget it, and I’m gonna shout it to the f–king world from the mountaintops.”
It’s clear that Nicki Minaj and Drake are great friends. It’s refreshing for fans to see them together and even more so to see that they plan to continue to make music together for a long time.
