In February of this year, Lady Gaga’s dog walker, Ryan Fischer, was shot while walking the star’s three French Bulldogs. Two of the dogs, Gustav and Koji, were kidnapped after the shooting. The other dog, Asia, was able to escape to safety in this kidnapping.
Ryan Fischer was rushed to the hospital and sustained non life threatening. The two dogs who had been kidnapped were shortly afterwards returned safely to Lady Gaga. The woman who returned the pups received a $500,000 reward.
Fast forward a few months later to now, 5 suspects have been arrested and charged, including the woman who returned the dogs, for being involved in the shooting and kidnapping.
The Los Angeles Police Department recently announced via press conference the suspects in connection to the violent crime: James Jackson, 18; Jaylin White, 19; Lafayette Whaley, 27; Harold White, 40; and Jennifer McBride, 50.
Jackson, Jaylin White, and Whaley are each facing heavy charges of attempted murder, conspiracy to commit robbery, and second-degree robbery. Harold White, Jaylin Whites father, along with Jennifer McBride are facing charges of being accessories to attempted murder.
Jackson, Whaley, and both Whites have been recognized by authorities as active, documented gang members in Los Angeles. According to E News, District Attorney George Gascón said this was “A brazen street crime that left a man seriously wounded”.
Jennifer McBride was the woman who returned the dogs and received the reward. Originally, police did not believe she was involved in the kidnapping of Gaga’s pets. However, after further investigation, they believe that this may not be the case. It is to be believed she had a connection with the kidnappers and was aware of how valuable the pets were among returning them.
It is believed that the kidnappers were not targeting Lady Gaga and were unaware they were her dogs. They were attempting to kidnap the dogs because of their knowledge of the breed’s value. The kidnapping quickly turned violent when the kidnappers pulled out their weapons and shot Fischer in the chest to get hold of the dogs.
Lady Gaga was in Rome when the shooting and kidnapping happened. She was filming an upcoming movie at the time. Upon the news of this heartbreaking act, she immediately sent all of her love and gratitude to Fischer, calling him a “hero”. She also posted a heartfelt Instagram asking for her two dogs’ safe return.
Ryan Fishcer is expected to make a full recovery from the incident and all of the dogs are safe at home with Gaga. The 5 connected with this crime are each being held at $1 million bail.
