In a recent shocking turn of events in the case of Britney Spears’ conservatorship, her father has agreed to step down as her conservator.
Britney’s father, Jamie Spears, has been her conservator since 2008. Britney was placed under a conservatorship, meant to be temporary, nearly 13 years ago, but has been forced to stay under its rule to this day.
While fans always speculated Britney was being treated unfairly under this conservatorship, mainly by her father, Britney had always been silent on the topic. The #FreeBritney movement started to help bring light to the suffering Britney was experiencing, but she always claimed to be fine.
That is until recently, when Britney finally spoke out to the court, confessing all of the abuse she has endured under the conservatorship. She also has been more open on her social media and to the fans, showing her support of the #FreeBritney movement, which she never did before.
She was apparently always advised not to speak out against her conservatorship by her lawyers and legal time. She also was under strict rule of thumb under her conservatorship and was always met with threats that if she didn’t comply with what she was told, she wouldn’t be able to see her children, boyfriend, etc.
However, Britney has finally reached a breaking point and has been speaking up in hopes it will get her freedom back. With her recent confessions, fans’ speculations of the abuse she was enduring turned out to be true.
The person who played the biggest role in controlling her and stripping her of her freedom was her own father, Jamie Spears. Jamie Spears has been in control of Britney’s conservatorship for over a decade and has had control over not only her finances (which a conservatorship is intended to have control over), but also her every move.
While Britney has recently been fighting to get rid of the conservatorship all together, she has also been trying to remove her father from it in the meantime. With her past legal representation, chosen by her father, she was never able to gain any success in this process.
However, a few months ago Britney was finally able to get a new lawyer to represent her and she has been making new strides in the case. The most recent one, getting her father to step down as her conservator.
Now, Britney will be assigned a new conservator, but one a lot less controlling and abusive than her father. This is also one step closer to Britney getting rid of the conservatorship all together.
