Festivals are back in action! This includes one of the biggest festivals in the US, Lollapalooza. Lollapalooza, along with every other festival or event, did not happen last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It was up in the air if the Lollapalooza would even happen this year since we are not completely out of the woods yet, but the ultimate decision was to put the festival on with some COVID-19 guidelines.
The return of Lollapalooza has fans ecstatics, especially because of the star studded line up this year. Headliners for the festival include the Foo Fighters, Post Malone, Tyler, The Creator, Miley Cyrus, DaBaby, Marshmello, Journey, Megan Thee Stallion, and many more.
Lollapalooza is one of the most highly anticipated festivals each year. This festival takes place in Chicago over the course of four days. This year the dates for Lollapalooza will be from July 29th to August 1st. This festival is the largest show the city of Chicago ever holds.
The line-up for this event was just released at 11am yesterday, May 19th. The festival noted that tickets would go on sale starting at 12pm that day as well. By the hour of 6 pm, the festival’s four-day passes were completely sold out. Clearly, festival fans can not wait to get back to seeing their favorite artists.
The festival will still be operating at full capacity per usual, which is about 400,000 people in total (100,000 per day). Although tickets sold out quickly and this is one of the largest festivals in America, there are still COVID-19 rules to be followed.
City officials were unsure if the festival should even still happen this year, but in the end made the decision to make it happen, but with some rules in place. In order to enter the festival, you must either be fully vaccinated or have received a negative COVID-19 test. If you are getting tested and going to multiple days of the show, you will need a new negative result for each individual day you are attending.
The Chicago Department of Public Health Commissioner, Dr. Allison Arwady, suggested that attendees should get fully vaccinated for the festival because it is much easier than to get the Covid test each day. She said this “To attend Lollapalooza you either will need to be fully vaccinated or you will need to provide a negative test for every day that you are planning to attend. So the easiest way by far if you want to attend Lollapalooza is to get vaccinated now.”
The Mayor of Chicago, Lori Lighfoot, was excited to announce the return of Lollapalooza since it was sorely missed in 2020. She also encouraged people to get the vaccine as well by ending her festival announcement tweet with “Get vaxxed #OpenChicago.”
It’s clear with the vaccine becoming more available to the general public, we are back on the right track to normalcy. Lollapalooza is just one of the many festivals in the US happening again this year after being cancelled in 2020.
