3 Ways To Spice Up Your Outdated Playlists

Music is an art form that can be listened to repeatedly before the user tires of it. There are many reasons why a person can listen to a song time and time again. Still, whatever that might be, you can find yourself quickly becoming annoyed by a song that was once your favorite.

The article Why you like listening to the same song over and over again, written by Taylor Pittman of the HuffPost, describes a few reasons why people might listen to the same tune repeatedly.

New advances within the music industry have made streaming your favorite songs all the easier. However, it has also made it that much easier to get bored of them. As a result of COVID-19, quarantine has caused a spike in music streaming app usage. Listeners are quickly finding themselves becoming bored of their playlists at a much faster rate. On the bright side, there are easy ways for streamers to discover new music and update their playlists.

Premade playlists

Many music streaming apps, such as Spotify, offer premade playlists of varying genres and popularity. A quick way to find new music to satisfy your tastes is to explore premade playlists within your favorite genres. You can even take it one step further and listen to playlists based on your favorite artists.

Another popular method to finding new music through playlists is to listen to premade playlists of music that is currently topping the charts. Many streaming apps offer multiple playlists of different genres/artists that are now popular.

My favorite playlist to dig through from Spotify is RapCaviar. It contains all the most popular new releases within the rap and hip-hop genres. Singles from Drake’s new album Scary Hours 2 are a big hit on this playlist.

Stalk your friends’ playlists

One of the easiest ways I find new music is by going to my friends’ profiles and stalking their playlists. Many users publicly share their playlists with the world. If you have a friend, or two, you know who shares similar interests in music with you, simply go to their profile and see what they have shared publicly.

This method is also a great way to introduce yourself to new genres. My favorite discovery on one of my friend’s profiles is a playlist they made called hippie vibes. I spend a lot of my time listening to music from the rap and hip-hop genres, so I was pleasantly surprised when I liked songs from his playlist, such as Maggie May by Rod Stewart and You are the Woman by Firefall.

YouTube Surfing

The third method that I use is YouTube surfing. This method is precisely what it sounds like: Go onto YouTube, type in a song or artist you are familiar with, and dig through the related videos for as long as your brain can handle. I typically use this as a last resort method if I exhaust the first two methods.

YouTube surfing can be very time-consuming, especially if you are the type of person to completely immerse yourself into activities. One moment you’re drinking your coffee, enjoying the morning air, and then six hours, you snap out of it and realize you just stared at your laptop for the entire day. Be that as it may, this method can be quite rewarding. When I was a kid, my most treasured find, even to this day, was 1985 by Bowling for Soup.
