Dustin Johnson’s epic run of 2020 all started at the Travelers Championship. DJ shot 19 under par to beat out Kevin Streelman by one stroke last year in front of only 38 people because of COVID-19 restrictions (msn.com). The win kick started a string of success for Johnson which culminated in a victory at The Masters in November.
The South Carolina native has not been in good form for most of the 2021 season and he has yet to find the winner’s circle. Will this year’s Travelers Championship also turn Johnson’s year around? We’ll take a look at Johnson’s chances of repeating as well as three other golfers who may spoil his back-to-back bid.
Can Johnson repeat as champion of the Travelers?
Johnson is the most talented player on the PGA Tour when his game is dialed in. Simply put, when DJ gets on a hot streak everyone else is playing for second place. Johnson is currently listed as one of the betting favorites to win the Travelers.
The problem is that although Johnson is still ranked #1 in the world, he hasn’t even had a top 5 finish all year. He’s missed two cuts already this year and has often looked unfocused during some tournaments. Johnson loves playing at TPC River Highlands but he will have to putt a whole lot better if he expects to repeat.
