Peace And Quiet – Why It’s Good For You

Image

Some of us love excitement.

And on the flipside, some of us prefer peace and quiet.

But here’s the thing.

Even if you tend to love excitement, peace and quiet is still really good for you

In fact, all of us need a certain amount of quiet time to ourselves, for a variety of different reasons.

Silence, peace, and quiet give us opportunities for self reflection, daydreaming, mindfulness, gratitude, and many other positive things.

A Lot Of Humans Are Stressed

Most people who live in the modern world are no strangers to the concept of stress.

Most of us associate stress with negative emotion and unhappiness, and for good reason.

Stress isn’t good for you.

In the short term, stress can help you to deal with bad situations quickly and efficiently.

And to a great degree, that’s why we evolved to be stressed out if things aren’t going well.

To a certain extent, stress helps to motivate us for survival.

The problem is that long term stress can be really bad for your overall health and wellness.

Chronic stress can disturb your immune system, disrupt your sleep patterns, hurt your digestive system, and even play havoc with your reproductive system.

People who experience long term chronic stress may suffer from increased sadness, anger, sleeplessness, irritability, and even headaches over the long term.

These problems can even become more serious over time. They can contribute to heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, and even mental disorders like anxiety and depression.

This Is Where Peace And Quiet Comes In

A little bit of peace and quiet added into your life can do a great deal of good. It can help to relieve stress, restore mental awareness, and literally heal your brain

Sitting still, being quiet, relaxing, and just enjoying some peace and calm can also help to lower your blood pressure, decrease your heart rate, steady your breathing, reduce muscle tension, and increase cognition and focus.

Overall, introverts tend to be a bit better at adopting quiet time than extroverts.

Since extroverts like to be around high energy environments, they can sometimes neglect peace and quiet more often than introverts.

But regardless of how sociable you are, it’s vitally important to make sure that you find the time to be alone, be silent, and just enjoy some peace, calm, and serenity in your life.

How To Create More Peace And Quiet For Yourself

Meditation can help with this. Taking long, slow walks alone at a park or on a trail can help with it as well.

Sitting quietly while enjoying your morning coffee, looking at the window and allowing yourself to get lost in thought, or even listening to natural sounds like rain, thunderstorms, wind, etc, can all contribute to helping you feel more peaceful.

But the important thing to remember is that you have to make it a priority

Peace and quiet rarely happen on their own in our busy modern world.

Therefore, it’s in our best interest to cultivate it for ourselves, to increase our overall health and wellness, and to live a better, healthier, happier life as a result.
