Monday Night Football Preview: Eagles @ Cowboys

Image

Football fans are treated to an NFC East rivalry tonight on Monday Night Football as the Philadelphia Eagles travel to Jerry World to take on the Dallas Cowboys (ESPN). Dallas is currently a three-and-a-half-point favorite at most online sportsbooks. Kickoff is set for 8:15 PM Eastern Time.

Both teams come into this game with respectable 1-1 records. The Eagles lost a close one last week to the Niners while the Cowboys pulled off a road upset over the Chargers. Let’s do a deep dive into each team to see who might have the upper hand in this game.

Eagles Offense vs. Cowboys Defense

Jalen Hurts has looked great through his first two games as the starting QB. The former Alabama and Oklahoma star has amassed 454 passing yards and three touchdowns while also accumulating 144 yards and a touchdown on the ground. Hurts’ favorite target so far has been wideout Quez Watkins, who has caught five passes for 140 yards.

The Cowboys’ defense still has plenty of holes but they’ve played much more inspired this year so far. Holding Justin Herbert and the high octane Chargers offense to only 17 points last week was just the boost this unit needed after being shredded by Tom Brady and the Bucs in Week 1. Trevon Diggs is starting to look more comfortable in the Cowboys’ secondary and he already has two interceptions this season.

Cowboys Offense vs. Eagles Defense

Dak Prescott looks to be fully healed and has thrown for 640 yards and three scores so far. The former Mississippi State Bulldog has thrown a couple of untimely interceptions but that should be cleaned up as he gets more reps. His favorite target has been CeeDee Lamb, who has 15 catches for 185 yards and a touchdown.

It’ll be interesting to see how Prescott performs tonight against an aggressive Eagles defense. The big surprise so far for Dallas has been the emergence of Tony Pollard, who looks to be much more explosive than Ezekiel Elliott coming out of the backfield. Look for offensive coordinator Kellen Moore to keep calling Pollard’s number as long as he’s producing.

Our Pick: Dallas Cowboys -3.5

This should be a fantastic game to watch tonight and the crowd in Dallas should be jacked since it’s the home opener. We envision a huge game for Prescott and the Cowboys’ offense. Philly’s defense is strong but we don’t see them being able to limit all of Dallas’s weapons for all four quarters.

The Cowboys’ defense will still probably rank in the bottom half of the league this year, but we see them getting just enough stops in this game. Philly’s offense looked too inconsistent last week against San Fran.

Rookie linebacker Micah Parsons will probably be asked to spy on Hurts to try and limit his running ability. We see the Cowboys possibly forcing Hurts into a turnover or two. Lay the small number with Dallas in this one. Best of luck!
