College Football Week 7: 3 Games to Keep An Eye On

Image

It’s hard to believe we are entering Week 7 of the college football season. We saw some stunning upsets in Week 6, including #1 Alabama losing on the road to an unranked Texas A&M team. Week 7 doesn’t offer many Top 25 games but here are three games to keep an eye on when this Saturday rolls around (ESPN).

#12 Oklahoma State at #25 Texas: Noon EST on Fox

Don’t look now but Oklahoma State is knocking on the door of a Top 10 ranking after a nice 5-0 start. Head coach Mike Gundy has this Cowboys team playing phenomenal defense. The most interesting part of this matchup is the stout Pokes defense against the highly efficient Texas Longhorns offense. Oklahoma State is only allowing 18.6 points per game this season.

The biggest question mark for the Horns is how they will handle this game after blowing the huge lead to archrival Oklahoma in the Red River Showdown. This could be a flat spot after that heartbreaking, last-second loss. Will Coach Sark have the Horns ready to play, or will that devastating loss cost them another game against Oklahoma State?

#11 Kentucky at #1 Georgia: 3:30 EST on CBS

This is the SEC Game of the Week and should be a fun one to watch. Though the Wildcats are a surprising 6-0, the oddsmakers aren’t giving them much of a chance against the Bulldogs. Georgia is currently favored by 23.5 points at most online sportsbooks. Now that Georgia has reached the coveted #1 spot, how will they handle that level of success?

Though both of these offenses average over 30 points per game, the strength of each of these teams is their defense. Kentucky is only allowing 17.5 points per game while Georgia is holding opponents to a frighteningly low 5.5 points per contest. This means that points could be at a premium in this SEC battle.

#13 Ole Miss at Tennessee: 7:30 EST on SEC Network

Though this isn’t a Top 25 matchup, this game brings us a few intriguing storylines. The majority of Vol Nation is still upset with Lane Kiffin after he ran off to take the USC job after only spending one year in Knoxville. This may end up being the best game of the day, as the Ole Miss Rebels are favored by only 3.5 points and the total is sitting at 79.

Both of these offenses love to push the football and run the uptempo style. Ole Miss bounced back with a nice one-point win over Arkansas last week after being embarrassed by Alabama the week before. Tennessee’s offense has been racking up tons of yards of late and they’ve put up 107 points over the last couple of weeks. This could be Josh Heupel’s first signature win as the Vols head coach if his team can pull off the small upset at home on Saturday night.
