President Trump returned to the state of Texas to deliver remarks at CPAC 2021 on Sunday. In recent weeks, Trump has started endorsing congressional candidates and holding rallies in several states as he prepares to help the Republican Party win back a majority in both the Senate and the House of Representatives.
Trump used his opportunity to speak about the election results from the 2020 Presidential Election. As he always does, he also teased the idea of running again in 2024. He previously told several news sources that he had already made up his mind in regards to whether or not he will run again.
One of the interesting bits of information that you get from an event like CPAC is the opportunity to look at early straw poll candidate preferences for the next election. Even though we are several years away from the 2024 Presidential Election, straw poll results can be a strong indicator of the future nominees for each political party.
Trump easily won the CPAC straw poll with nearly 70% of the vote. The only other candidate that even achieved double digits in this poll was Governor Ron DeSantis from the state of Florida. According to betting markets, these two candidates are the most likely to earn the nomination in 2024, and this straw poll currently aligns with those indications as well.
Trump will continue to hold rallies for his endorsed candidates as he continues to place a significant amount of effort to try and help the Republican Party in 2022. Only time will tell if his efforts are going to pay off when the midterms arrive in November of next year.
