The Weeknd is proving his talents aren’t just limited to singing and songwriting. The superstar has announced that he will be taking a major part in the creation and production of a brand new HBO series called The Idol.

The Weeknd is going to be a co-writer and also an actor in this new HBO series. While he has made his appearance on the big screen a time or two, he hasn’t ever had any major roles nor has he ever helped create a show. This being a new chapter in the Weeknd’s life, but he seems to be more than ready for it.

Variety reported that The Weeknd will be collaborating with the creator of Euphoria, Sam Levinson, and they will be working together to produce this series. Reza Fahim, The Weeknd’s creative producer, will also take part in making the magic happen. All three will be credited as creators of The Idol.

A sneak peak at what the premise of the new series will be, Variety tweeted that it is about a “female pop singer who starts a romance with an enigmatic L.A. club owner who is the leader of a secret cult.” Variety also mentioned in their tweet that The Weeknd will be starring and co-writing this series.

As confirmation, The Weeknd simply quote tweeted Variety’s tweet with the name of the show, The Idol, and then tagged HBO themselves. This simple act confirmed to fans that the series is in the works and that the Weeknd does in fact have a major part in creating/starring in it.

As mentioned, The Weeknd has made a feature or two in television shows/movies, but nothing major like this upcoming role is supposed to be. The Weeknd made a short cameo in Adam Sandler’s movie, Uncut Gems, in which he appeared for only a few minutes. The Weeknd has also guest starred and helped write an episode of American Dad in a 2020 episode.Even though his appearances were short, he has always been praised for his professionalism and his talent.

The Weeknd has also showcased his acting abilities in his infamous music videos and his recent character he created himself and had been portraying for months to create a storyline for his most recent album, After Hours. The Weeknd had dedicated all of his appearances since the release of his After Hours album last year to portraying a certain character that is supposed to represent Hollywood, and it all came to a head at his Super Bowl halftime show.

The Weeknd has shown his dedication to his craft time and time again. Even though it has not been confirmed which role he will be playing in this new series, there is no doubt that he will ace it. His part in acting in the series, along with co-writing it, is expected to give the series just what it needs to be spectacular and creative.
