The Weeknd and Ariana Grande: A Dynamic Duo

The Weeknd and Ariana Grande took the stage last night, Thursday May 27th, at the iHeartRadio Music Awards to perform their hit song ‘Save Your Tears’. Let’s just say, they did not disappoint.

This performance was able to be held in front of a masked live audience, something that has not been able to be done in a very long time. It was clear fans missed live performances, especially by the two major stars Abel and Grande, as they roared throughout the entire performance.

The iHeartRadio Music Awards were held in Los Angeles at Dolby Theater Thursday night. Other star studded performances at the award ceremony included Doja Cat, Bruno Mars and Anderson.Paak, and Dan + Shay.

However, it was The Weeknd and Ariana Grande who stole the show. The Weeknd wore a black suit and Ariana Grande came out wearing a silky purple gown. The two performed in front of a dark, multicolor background, making for a very classy and elegant performance.

The version of ‘Save Your Tears’ the two performed is actually a remix featuring Grande. The original is featured on The Weeknd’s recent album, “After Hours’, where he sings on this track alone. The two have worked on quite a few projects in the past, so he knew adding Ariana Grande to the song would only make it more amazing.

The crowd loved the performance and in fact did not “save their tears”. Upon Ariana Grande’s entrance on stage after the first chorus where her part comes in, the camera panned over to fans in the crowd crying. It has been a while since we saw the singer live.

It’s also Ariana Grande’s first appearance as a married woman. The super star featured a beautiful rock on her finger as she held her microphone. She was glowing during the performance.

The two singers each have a true talent when it comes to their singing, that is no secret. With their vocal ranges, the two can hit almost any note and make any song they sing together magical. The Weeknd serenaded the crowd with his smooth, R&B/pop sounding voice we all know and love, while Ariana Grande took a quite different approach than we usually hear from her and used her lower range for the verses and chorus. However, Grande was not afraid to hit some high notes at certain parts of the song either. Grande belted out an out of this world whistle tone amidst the song that astounded the crowd.

The performance was a breath of fresh air since we have not been lucky enough to see nearly any live performances in recent years. The two superstars came to serve, which they always do. The Weeknd and Ariana Grande blew this performance out of the water.
