Russell Brand Gets Candid About Heroin Addiction In New Book

Russell Brand’s new book, Recovery: Freedom From Our Addictions, is a candid account of his life on drugs. Brand says he tries hard not to think about his relationship with heroin, because it becomes tempting to relapse.

“If pain is a fist, heroin dives into it, opens it up and relaxes you,” Brand, 44, writes. “It feels so beautiful. It feels like a cuddle, like comfort, like being in your mother’s arms. It’s so sweet and perfect.”

Brand says he wrote the book in order to help others facing the same addictions he battled for years.

“It’s like I’ve been to a college of mental illness and now I’ve graduated,” the addiction mentor says. “I want to help more people get into recovery.”
