McKayla Maroney Alleges USA Gymnastics Wanted To Silence Her Claims of Abuse

McKayla Maroney won’t remain silent any longer.

In a newly filed lawsuit against USA Gymnastics, the Olympic gold medalist, 22, claims the gymnastics organization paid her to sign a confidentiality agreement after she accused former team doctor Larry Nassar of sexual abuse. Her lawsuit seeks to nullify the agreement.

Maroney, who says she used the money to pay for psychological treatment, also provided a statement during Nassar’s federal child pornography case in October. He has since been sentenced to sixty years in prison.

“He abused my trust, he abused my body and he left scars on my psyche that may never go away,” Maroney wrote.

USA Gymnastics has not yet responded to the lawsuit.
